What is Jodo?
Jodo, meaning “The Way of the Staff,” is a Japanese martial art that teaches practitioners to use the short staff (jo) against a sword. It emphasizes control, timing, and precision. Find out more.

What We Practice
Our curriculum includes kihon (fundamentals), solo, and paired kata. There is no sparring. Rooted in tradition, but relevant for modern discipline and focus. Explore the curriculum here.

Where We Practice
We have dojos in Hawaii, Alaska, the Midwest, Virginia, and Maryland. Please contact us for information on a particular dojo. If there is no training group near you, we will introduce you to qualified teachers near you.

Why We Train
Jōdō sharpens the mind, hones the body, and deepens awareness. It teaches precise timing, fluid movement, and respectful conduct through traditional weapon forms rooted in centuries of martial history. More than self-defense, Jōdō offers a personal journey of calm focus, quiet strength, and continual growth.
