Soares Sensei studied Jōdō from 1991 under the guidance of Nishioka Sensei in Tokyo, Japan. He also studied under Mitsuyama Sensei, one of Nishioka’s Sensei’s top students. Soares Sensei continued with Cieslik Sensei upon his return to the US in 1998. After leading the Frederick, Maryland Dōjō for almost 20 years, he moved to the Shenandoah Valley, where he teaches Jōdō in Edinburg, VA. He received Menkyo Kaiden, the license of full transmission, in 2024
He also studied Ki-Aikidō and graduated from the Teachers Program in Tokyo, Japan. He is a lifelong meditator as well.
